Finally I dare to dream….

Dreams and aspirations are what keep the human spirit going, without them we are nothing but skin and bone simply surviving and awaiting death to take us. It is and always has been my dream to travel, from a young age I was always interested in history, culture, architecture and landscapes. That interest heightens year upon year, however year upon year I find myself not achieving any of my dreams or goals, I’m just simply surviving.

The reason for my lack of achievements? Anxiety and lack of confidence. I have suffered for 15 years now, constantly doubting myself, never believing I was good enough to achieve anything of worth, never stepping outside of my comfort zone simply for fear of something going wrong. However at 25, instead of just sitting there letting my anxiety control my life and consume my spirit, I must now take action and take back my life. Hiding away in a comfortable shell only stops me from achieving my dreams and completing my bucket list. So from now on I am looking to live life to the fullest in any way possible, beginning with a trek.

At 18 years old and 16 stone if you would have told me I was planning a trek with my fiancé from Delhi to Bangkok going through Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam I would never have believed you, I genuinely thought I was destined for a life of loneliness and monotony. However now at 25 and 6 stone lighter this trip is becoming a reality, and I could not be more excited. The thought of being able to photograph some stunning landscapes, discover amazing cultures, meet new people along the way all whilst supporting two marvellous charities is incredible. The beginning of the dream is on the horizon.

There will always be doubters, those that just don’t believe in you and only choose to discourage. However I hope that with the help and support of family, friends, and those that simply choose to read this blog, I can overcome my anxiety and depression, and together we can help others suffering and raise some much needed awareness.

  1. It’s great that you’re not letting anxiety hold you back! Dare to dream and never give up! You’ll have bad at times but don’t let it discourage you from having a better next day.
